Practical, individual dog training in Henley-on-Thames and the surrounding area.
Pulling on the lead, ignoring recall, jumping up, barking at the front door or simply not listening when it matters?
Sometimes you've already tried the advice, watched the videos and practised the exercises, but something still isn't clicking.
My one-to-one dog training sessions are designed around your individual dog, your family and the things you actually need help with. Sessions take place in your home or out on a walk, depending on what we're working on.
One-hour training session | £65
As a Canine Behaviourist as well as a dog trainer, I can look beyond the behaviour you're seeing and help you understand why it's happening.
Dogs don't all behave in the same way for the same reason. A dog who won't respond might not understand what's being asked, but they might also be too excited, worried, frustrated or distracted to learn effectively.
This can be particularly useful when you've tried training before and it hasn't worked. Rather than simply repeating the same exercise, we can work out what's getting in the way and find an approach that works for your individual dog.
What can we work on?
One-to-one training can help with everyday skills and problems including:
Recall • Loose-lead walking • Jumping up • Barking • Sit, Stay & Settle • Leave & Give • Guest and front-door manners • Toilet training • Focus around distractions • Handling • Confidence • Pub and office manners
You don't need to know exactly what kind of training you need before booking. Tell me what's happening and we'll start there.
For more complex behavioural problems, including aggression, significant reactivity, resource guarding, separation-related distress or a history of biting, I may recommend a Behaviour Consultation instead.
Training where you actually need it
Rather than expecting your dog to behave perfectly in a training environment, we'll usually work where the problem actually happens. If your dog pulls, we'll go for a walk. If visitors send them into a frenzy, we can work at your front door. If settling at home is the problem, that's useful for me to see too.
And because dogs live with families rather than individual handlers, everyone is welcome to get involved, including children.
Where appropriate, I'll help children understand how to communicate and interact safely with their dog and give them simple exercises they can practise too.
Support doesn't stop when the session ends
There's a big difference between getting an exercise to work while I'm standing beside you and being able to repeat it yourself later. After every training session, I'll send you a follow-up email with the exercises we've worked on and what I'd like you to practise at home.
Where useful, I'll also send you clear Family Dogs training guides to refer back to, so everyone at home can follow the same approach. And if you get stuck afterwards, I'm available via WhatsApp for follow-up questions and advice.
A one-hour individual training session costs £65.
This includes:
One hour of individual training • Home visit or training walk • Training tailored to your dog • Follow-up exercises by email • Family Dogs training guides where appropriate • WhatsApp support afterwards
